Covid 19 - Grey Zone
The pandemic is causing something more pernicious than containment. A form of fear sets in. The fear of being contaminated. It carries with it the need of mistrust and the feeling that everything outside the private sphere carries a danger. What is pernicious is its invisibility, comparable in this regard to radioactivity. This characteristic makes it frightening and leads to a useful paranoia, a syndrome of suspicion. Especially as the danger zone extends beyond the bodies. One meter or one meter and a half, so they tell us. It also takes us back to dark times, the Spanish flu, the bubonic plague and its medieval baggage. This photographic work is about that. An opaque veil, a blurred image, vibrating as if something emanates from objects and places. And the people passing by who once barely existed and who now seem to project themselves beyond their bodies. Against us.
